12. Ada Emily6 MORTON (child of William5, Francis4, James3, Francis2, George1);[116],[116] born circa 1880 at Australia;[285],[286] married Robert or 'C' Turner.[287]

She was also known as Emily in Canadian records.[123] She emigrated between 1890 and 1900 to Barrie, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada; to her Uncle Edward's, accompanying sister Eveline.[122] It was said Emily was widowed and moved to Hamilton, Ontario with some daughters.[288] Emily A. Morton was to receive a tea set as proceeds of the estate of her Aunt Tat in Canada in 1911. Her address was listed as Mrs. C. Turner, Haldon, Melbourne, Australia.[264]

13. William Edward Dean Barret6 MORTON (child of Francis5, Francis4, James3, Francis2, George1); born 19 Dec 1866 at Fairwood, Tinahely, Co. Wicklow, Ireland;[289] married Mary Minnie Wood, daughter of Robert Wood and Susan Fennell, 28 Apr 1897 at Coulson's Hill Anglican, West Gwillimbury, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada;[290],[291] died 1 Nov 1904 at Holland Landing, York Co., Ontario, Canada, at age 37;[292] buried 2 Nov 1904 at Morton plot, Christ Church, Holland Landing, York Co., Ontario, Canada.[106]

In 1895, William and Minnie received Woodmount farm from the estate of his Uncle George.[101] In 1895, William was a church warden at Christ Church, Holland Landing.[293] He and Mary Minnie Wood appeared on the census of 1901 at Holland Landing, York Co., Ontario, Canada; where daughter Mary and a live-in labourer were present. The family lived in a 3-room wooden home, with several outbuilding on 300 acres, lot 110 East Yonge Street.[294] On 9 Jan 1905, William's estate was inventoried for the Surrogate Court. The following real estate was recorded: west half of lots 109 and 110, concession 1 east of Yonge St., south-west part of lot 108, concession 1 west of Yonge St, Township of East Gwillimbury. The declaration was made by his widow, Minnie, and was witnessed by family friend and lawyer T.W.W. Evans.[295]

Mary Minnie WOOD[296] was born on 10 May 1868 at West Gwillimbury, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada.[297],[298] She died of pleurisy and pneumonia on 2 Nov 1937 at Bradford, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada, at age 69.[299] She was buried on 4 Nov 1937 at Morton plot, Christ Church, Holland Landing, York Co., Ontario, Canada.[300] She was confirmed on 17 May 1880 at Trinity Church, Bradford, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada; while being a member of Christ Church parish.[301] In 1905, Mary Minnie Wood and Elizabeth Ann Dean Morton lived at John Street, Bradford, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada, after the death of Minnie's husband William, Eliza's brother.[167] She and Francis Morton appeared on the census of 1911 at Bradford, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada; where Minnie (42) and Mary (12), lived with father-in-law Francis (80) living on 'income', brother-in-law George (30) a grocery salesman, and sister-in-law Elizabeth (38).[146] Minnie and Eliza both fell ill in October, 1937. Eliza died on the 20th, and Minnie's health deteriorated quickly.[302]

14. Anna Isobel Fitzgerald6 MORTON (child of Francis5, Francis4, James3, Francis2, George1); born 26 Oct 1876 at Tinahely, Co. Wicklow, Ireland; and was so ill as an infant, she was baptised at home;[303],[120] married John William Mather 14 Jan 1909 at Trinity Church, Bradford, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada; where John was recorded as a merchant, son of James A. Mather and G (or C) Prentice. Nancy was a nurse, 31, of Bradford, daughter of Francis M. Morton. Martha Elliott Morton (of Collingwood) witnessed;[304],[305] died 1972;[306] buried 1972 at New Lowell Church Cemetery, row 1, New Lowell, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada.[307]

Nancy received $1000 from her uncle George's estate upon his death in 1895.[166] As of after 1898, she also went by the name of Aunt Nancy. Nancy met John Mathers in 1907 at the Collingwood Hospital when his wife Anne (nee Carter) was ill and dying.[308] She and John William Mather appeared on the census of 1911 at Sunnidale Twp., Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada; where John (33) and Annie (34) lived with his father James (60), and Hilda (5) and Annie (3) were present.[309]

John William MATHER was born on 21 Apr 1877 at New Lowell, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada.[310],[311],[312] He married Annie Ethel Carter on 4 Nov 1903 at Lindsay, Ontario, Canada.[313] He died on 19 Apr 1944 at New Lowell, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada, at age 66.[312] He was buried at New Lowell Church Cemetery, row 2, New Lowell, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada.[314]

15. Edward James Elliott6 MORTON (child of Francis5, Francis4, James3, Francis2, George1);[318],[319] born 4 Dec 1885 at Holland Landing, York Co., Ontario, Canada;[320] married Alice Theresa Holtorf, daughter of Henry M. Holtorf and Mary Jane Hulse, 12 Jan 1912 at 665 Dufferin St., Toronto, York Co., Ontario, Canada; where Edward was 26, and Alice 25. Witnesses were sisters Martha Morton of Collingwood, and Irene Holtorf of Toronto;[321] died 1980.

He was also known as Ned.[322],[323] Ned received $2000 from his uncle George's estate upon his death in 1895.[166] He was confirmed on 2 May 1902 at Christ Church, Holland Landing, York Co., Ontario, Canada.[324] Ned, through his connection with cousin John Elliott, worked at the Standard Bank in Bradford as a teenager, and lived there, in a small apartment. He was transferred to Picton, then Belleville, following John, until moving to Toronto to work in the head office foreign exchange department.[325] While in Toronto around 1911, Ned Morton and Alice Holtorf met.[326],[327] Between 1913 and 1915, Edward James Elliott Morton and Alice Theresa Holtorf lived at 217 Pacific Ave., Toronto, York Co., Ontario, Canada, After their marriage, Ned quit the bank and opened a grocery on Pacific Ave. and they lived in an apartment upstairs.[328],[329] Upon the birth of their second child, Mary, son William was sent to live with family in Bradford -- Aunts Eliza, Minnie, and Uncle George.[198] Around 1918 (or earlier) , Ned sold the store on Pacific Ave. for a good profit, and returned to the Royal Bank, becoming the head of the foreign exchange department. The family moved to Raymond Ave.[326] Between 1918 and 1940, Edward James Elliott Morton and Alice Theresa Holtorf lived at 75 Raymond Ave., Toronto, York Co., Ontario, Canada, where Ned was a bank employee (1924-26).[330],[331],[332] In 1940, Ned bought a house in Bradford, selling Raymond Ave. to son Bill.[333] He was the acting postmaster, following his brother George's retirement between 3 Aug 1950 and 30 Nov 1950 at Bradford, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada.[231]

Alice Theresa HOLTORF[334],[335] was born on 1 Mar 1887 at Orangeville, Dufferin Co., Ontario, Canada.[336],[337] She died in 1971. She was confirmed on 26 May 1901 at Parish of Bradford & West Gwillimbury, Bradford, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada; at age 14 by Arthur "Toronto."[338] She appeared on the census of 1911 at 240 Margueretta St, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; where Alice (24) was a stenographer with the government ("at Govt House"), and a lodger with Joseph A. (28) and Viola Maude Hewit (30), and their four children.[339] In 1912, Alice Theresa Holtorf lived at 240 Margueretta St., Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and she was a stenographer in the Agriculture Department of the Farmer's and Women's Institute.[340] Expecting her first child, Alice returned to Grandpa Stoddart's (Burton) house in Bradford in February, 1913. On the night of the 15th, the coldest day of the year and in the middle of a blizzard, her labour began in the north-west bedroom. Grandpa Stoddart told the story of how he continued to stoke the wood burning furnace to send adequate heat upstairs. When he noticed a chimney fire had begun, he rushed down to the furnace and with heavy gloves removed the furnace pipe, and plunged it into a barrel of water. The heat of the chimney drew up the water and quenched the fire. The next morning, Ned and Alice's son William was born.[198]

16. Francis George6 MORTON (child of Edward5, Francis4, James3, Francis2, George1);[272],[272] born 25 Jun 1865 at Barrie, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada;[341] married Emma Ellen (Emel) Foster 12 Nov 1896 at Shanty Bay, Barrie, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada;[342] died 29 Sep 1923 at age 58;[343] buried 2 Oct 1923 at Barrie Union Cemetery, lot 112, block G, Barrie, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada.[276]

Francis recieves a lot in Bradford from his uncle George's estate upon his death in 1895.[166] He and Emma Ellen (Emel) Foster appeared on the census of 1911 at Barrie, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada; where George F (46) living on "income", Emma (43), Basel (13), Max (9), Philip (7) and servant Violet Coles (37) were present.[344] Francis was to receive 1/5th share of his mother's estate on her death in 1911. He lived in Barrie at that time.[345] He lived in 1916 at Barrie, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada; at the time of his father's death.[248]

Emma Ellen (Emel) FOSTER was born in 1868.[346] She died in Mar 1954.[347] She was buried on 16 Mar 1954 at Barrie Union Cemetery, lot 113, block G, Barrie, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada.[276]

    Edward was a Flight Commander in the 98th Squadron RAF in the Great War.[351]

  • ii. Max Foster Deane Morton;[352],[353],[352],[353] born 30 Nov 1901 at Barrie, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada;[242],[354] died appendicitis 18 Feb 1917 at Barrie, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada, at age 15.[242],[354]

17. Dr Edward Reginald6 MORTON (child of Edward5, Francis4, James3, Francis2, George1); born circa 1868 at Ontario, Canada;[357] died 21 Jan 1944 at Gullane, East Lothian, Scotland.[358]

He was graduated in 1890 at University of Toronto, Toronto, York Co., Ontario, Canada; with an MD, and CM (possibly Certificated Master).[359] Edward recieves some medical books and tools from his uncle George's estate upon his death in 1895.[166] After 1900, Dr Edward Reginald Morton lived at 24 Park Crescent, Portland Place, London, England W 1.[360] Edward R. was to receive 1/5th share of his mother's estate on her death in 1911.[361] In 1911, Dr Edward Reginald Morton lived at 4 Pierpoint Road, London West, England, at the time of his mother's death.[282] He was living in 1916 at London, England; at the time of his father's death.[248] "Dr. Edward Reginald Morton was noted for his work on cancer but even more so for his early medical application of X-ray in Britain. ...he authored at least two books on the subject of X-ray apparatus and effects and numerous papers."[21] Edward Reginald Morton sent his "nephew" Bill the Boy's Own Annual from England each Christmas.[362] Edward Reginald was described in two articles as "formerly of Waterford, Ontario"; "... who for many years practiced in London, England. Associated with the Western Hospital, London, Dr. Morton was widely known for his treatment of cancer. He was the son of the late Dr. Edward Morton of Barrie and received his education there. Following gradutaion in medecine from the University of Toronto, he took a post-graduate study in London, England, and later in Austria. Surviving are a son and widow."[363]

    His wife was Dorothy Heddle. They had three sons and a daughter.[21] Flew for the R.C.A.F. in World War 2 as a Squadron Leader.[367]

Mary Isobel Fitzgerald7 MORTON (child of William6, Francis5, Francis4, James3, Francis2, George1);[368],[368] born 14 Jul 1898 at Holland Landing, York Co., Ontario, Canada; although her baptism said 14 June 1898 was correct;[194],[369] baptized 28 Aug 1898 at Christ Church, Holland Landing, York Co., Ontario, Canada; where her sponsor was Nancy Morton;[195] married Edgar Stanley Stych 3 May 1922 at Bradford, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada; Edgar was the son of Joesph Stych of Beeton, ON;[370],[371] died 4 Dec 1964 at St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada, at age 66.[372],[373]

She was educated between 1916 and 1917 at University of Toronto, Toronto, York Co., Ontario, Canada.[359] She and Edgar Stanley Stych lived in 1938 at Athlone, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada; where they were farming.[374]

Edgar Stanley STYCH was born on 13 Sep 1901 at Albion Twp., Peel Co., Ontario, Canada.[371] He married Beryl Watson in 1968.[375] He married Annie Mae McCallum circa 1974.[375] He died on 21 Jul 1994 at age 92.[372]

James Morton7 MATHER (child of Anna6Morton, Francis5, Francis4, James3, Francis2, George1);[272],[272] born before Feb 1912 at New Lowell, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada;[316] baptized 1 Feb 1912 at Trinity Church, Bradford, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada; sponsored by George & __ Morton;[315] married Elizabeth Eleanor Baker 1938; where announcement read "Dr James Morton Mather, son of John W. Mather to Miss Elizabeth Eleanor Baker, daughter of Perron E. Baker;"[378],[196] died of Multiple Sclerosis at Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.[379],[380]

In the Fall of 1952 University of British Coumbia Alumni Chronicle anounced, "Another outstanding appointment to the U.B.C. medical school came this summer with the addition to staff of Dr. James Morton Mather as Professor and Head of the Department of Public Health . . . He is a Toronto graduate of 1936 and has done extensive public health work in Ontario."[381] James was a Doctor in Vancouver.[308] In 1960, "Dr. Mather has been appointed assistant dean to carry out administrative work in connection with the construction of the new medical centre at U.B.C."[382] Regarding the James M. Mather Building, 5804 Fairview Avenue, built in 1973, "It was named after late James M. Mather,who had a leading role in establishing UBC's Faculty of Medicine and the Head of formerly Deparment of Preventive Medicine ,now the Department of Health Care and Epidemiology."[383]

Elizabeth Eleanor BAKER was born after 1910.[384]

20. William Edward Hulse7 MORTON (child of Edward6, Francis5, Francis4, James3, Francis2, George1); (a.k.a. Poppa, Uncle Bill);[386],[387] born 16 Feb 1913 at Barrie St., Bradford, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada; at his Grandma Stoddart's House;[388] married Marion Pearl Wixson, daughter of Samuel John Wixson and Annie Lucinda Blake, 29 Jun 1935 at Toronto, York Co., Ontario, Canada; where the maid of honour was Miss Marie Love of Thistletown and Rev. Edward Morely presided;[389] died 1 Feb 2000 at Kingston, Ontario, Canada, at age 86.

From about 1915 to 1919, Bill lived with his Uncle George and Aunts Eliza and Minnie in Bradford. His first memory was of his Aunts preparing a box of goodies for George who was fighting in the Great War in Europe. From now until his first job, Bill would spend his summers with Uncle George and Uncle Clarence (Minnie's brother) at Clarence's farm north of Bradford.[390] In the fall of 1919, Bill arrived home from Uncle Clarence's farm two days late and so missed the orientation for his school - it was very regimented. On his first day he didn't know where to line up, or that you had to march to class. The prinicple helped him out when his class marched off leaving him in the school yard by himself. Bill remembered his mother telling him that, if asked, he was to say she was Dutch, and not of German heritage as was the case.[391] Edward Reginald Morton sent his "nephew" Bill the Boy's Own Annual from England each Christmas.[362] After finishing high school in 1932, and normal school in 1933, Bill began teaching public school. It was at Harwood Public School that he met Marion Wixson (the 'dead bird' story).[391] Between 1934 and 1935, William Edward Hulse Morton lived at 75 Raymond Ave., Toronto, York Co., Ontario, Canada.[392] Between 1936 and 1937, William Edward Hulse Morton and Marion Pearl Wixson lived at 78 Yarrow Rd., Silverthorn, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, followed by a short stay with Bill's parents on Raymond Ave.[393] Between 1938 and 1940, William Edward Hulse Morton and Marion Pearl Wixson lived at 4 Rutherford Ave., Mount Dennis, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, when Bill transferred to Bala Avenue School.[394] Between 1940 and 1949, William Edward Hulse Morton and Marion Pearl Wixson lived at 75 Raymond Ave., Toronto, York Co., Ontario, Canada, renting Bill's parents' house after they had moved back to Bradford. Bill taught high school at Vaughan Road Collegiate Institute from 1940-1945.[395] In 1946, Bill joined Noxema Chemical Company of Canada Ltd. and became their Production Manager (1949), Secretary Treasurer (1950) and Vice President by 1953.[396] Between 1950 and 1954, William Edward Hulse Morton and Marion Pearl Wixson lived at Clarkson Rd., Clarkson, Peel Co., Ontario, Canada.[397] Between 1954 and 1956, William Edward Hulse Morton and Marion Pearl Wixson lived at John Street, Bradford, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada, with Uncle George.[398],[399] Between 1956 and 1965, William Edward Hulse Morton and Marion Pearl Wixson lived at 53 Grenview Blvd., Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada.[400] Between 1966 and 1973, William Edward Hulse Morton and Marion Pearl Wixson lived at Harbour St., Lefroy, Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada, "The Cottage" on lake Simcoe.[401] In 1967, Bill became the Executive Vice-President of Noxema, retiring sometime after 1974.[402] Between 1974 and 1985, William Edward Hulse Morton and Marion Pearl Wixson lived at Con. 11, West Gwillimbury Twp. (Bradford), Ontario, Canada, "The Farm."[403]

Marion Pearl WIXSON; (a.k.a. Gum Gum)[404],[405] was born on 12 Aug 1909 at 445 Quebec, Toronto, York Co., Ontario, Canada.[406] She died on 12 May 1996 at North York General Hospital, North York, York Co., Ontario, Canada, at age 86. Marion, while living with her parents, worked as a clerk at Kodak's in 1929, and then as a teacher from 1930 (Northland Ave. School c. 1935).[407]

She was a stenographer and assistant bookkeeper at W. Lloyd Wood, while living with her parents on Raymond Ave between 1934 and 1939 at Toronto, Ontario, Canada.[410] She was a stenographer with Noxema Chemical Co in 1940 at Toronto, York Co., Ontario, Canada.[411]

22. Alice Elizabeth7 MORTON (child of Edward6, Francis5, Francis4, James3, Francis2, George1); born 23 Apr 1917 at Toronto, York Co., Ontario, Canada;[412] married Allan Wells Coulter; died 11 Mar 1998 at Oshawa, Region of Durham, Ontario, Canada, at age 80.[413]

She also went by the name of Betty. She was an assistant bookkeeper at W. Lloyd Wood with her sister Mary, while living at home on Raymond Ave in 1940 at Toronto, Ontario, Canada.[411] Between 1946 and 1949, Alice Elizabeth Morton and Allan Wells Coulter lived at 16 Meadowvale Dr, Etobicoke Twp., York Co., Ontario, Canada.[414] In 1949, Alice Elizabeth Morton and Allan Wells Coulter lived at 290 Victoria Ave., Belleville, Ontario, Canada.[415] In the late 1950's, Al and Betty moved back to Toronto and lived in Don Mills.[416]

Allan Wells COULTER was born on 9 Jun 1917.[417] He died on 21 Mar 2004 at Picton, Prince Edward Co., Ontario, Canada, at age 86. During World War 2, Al was a member of Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps, #1 Vehicle Co., as a convoy captain, stationed at England, and ultimately landed at Juno Beach.[418] He was a manufacturer's representative for Benedict Proctor Mfg. Co., selling lines of silverware to retailers between 1946 and 1949.[419] He was Operations Manager for Benedict Proctor in 1949 at Trenton, Ontario, Canada.[415] He was a manager with Noxema in 1959 at 77 Park Lawn Rd, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.[416] In 1982, Allan Wells Coulter lived at Belleville, Ontario, Canada, after his retirement.[414]
